When we first learn about the Law of Attraction, it’s extremely exciting. Like Christmas for adults.
You think, “Oh my god, could this possibly be true? Can I really just ASK for something and get it? This is AMAZING.”
So, you set goals, make a dream board and wait. You feel like you’ve done everything right and nothing happens. So you get really pissed off. You want to say to the Universe "Dude, where's my stuff?".
I had someone ask me for advice recently and she was confused about how it works. She loves reading my stories about the Law of Attraction, but she was incredibly frustrated.
"Denise, I'm really panicking. I have no money in my bank account and I've got three big bills to pay this month. What am I supposed to do?”
I said “To start with, stop feeling bad and scared about it. It will only make it worse. Even though you're worried, start by affirming that everything will be okay. Visualize yourself paying your bills with ease. Feel the feeling of being so taken care of by the Universe.”
She said, “Denise, you don’t understand what I'm saying. How am I supposed to do that when I have no money in my bank account? It’s true! Everything that you’re saying is lovely, but the reality is there is NOTHING there.”
Negative affirmations are just as powerful as positive ones. When you say "I have no money", you'll only perpetuate the feelings of fear and anxiety, which will probably attract even more bills and unexpected expenditure.
The irony of the situation was that she couldn't see the pattern. She was constantly experiencing this feeling of having no money. At least once a month she was running out, but she was unwilling to look inside and change. I told her to stay positive and to affirm that something would come up. And it did. Someone gave her money out of the blue and she was saved that month.
The next month she wrote to me and said "Denise, I did another Law of Attraction experiment like you said and asked for $200 to show up today. And it didn't. Why?"
It was a little frustrating. I wanted to say - "Look, there is a process here. It's not always going to show up instantly if you're not willing to do the inner work involved".
It’s so much fun when things manifest instantly, but most of the time there is a time lag and there's no way of knowing how long. Why?
Because we're not truly aligned to what we want and we have to do some emotional or physical decluttering to let the Universe do its job. We may have to look at self-beliefs we have around money or take stock of some of our bad habits. Most people can't be bothered. They want to believe in a magical fairy, but not do any work towards it or change their behaviour in any way.
If you've done some emotional decluttering, are very clear on your goals and you're taking some action every day, then your desire will show up.... eventually.
However, it's incredibly important during that time lag, to remained totally aligned to the feeling of the outcome. It will be hard to be open to new opportunties and possibilities if you're worried and stressed.
That’s the big secret behind The Secret. You have to feel it before you have it. That can be very tough for some people. When you allow doubt and resistance to come in, you will actually block your natural luck, or you press pause on attracting what you want.
Trust me, you CAN learn to be lucky and attract what you want easily and effortlessly. The trick is to stay positive even when your reality is temporarily something totally different.
