What's the best goal setting technique?
How can I manifest my biggest dreams?
These are commonly asked questions and my answer is...
Start with describing your ideal day.
Ok, I obviously suck at drawing. But ignore that for a moment because here is one I did today as an illustration.
I know this is an extremely powerful exercise. Several years ago at mastermind group run by the lovely Karen Knowler, we did this exercise.
I described a day of waking up in sunshine, doing yoga with Mark, travelling around the world and then writing on my laptop a few times a day.
Funnily enough - not long after, I attracted an opportunity and won a competition for 6 months all expenses paid travel. Lucky bitch, right?
The exercise in itself didn't win me the competition but every time I thought about my goals through visualisation, goal setting and telling people about my goals, I completely magnetised opportunities to me.
I got excited about living that lifestyle and started to believe it was possible. So when the opportunity came up, I recognised it because I had visited that day already in my mind.
There is no right or wrong about goal setting, there are many different ways to set your goals - this is just one of them. Goal setting is a muscle and most of us are quite weak because we're not used to doing it, or we don't believe we can have what we want.
Describe in great detail:
- How and where do you wake up?
- Where do you live? Who lives with you?
- How do you spend your morning - what do you eat? What do you do first?
- How do you spend your time?
- What are you excited about?
Make it really juicy. Describe the feeling of the 1000-thread count Egyptian cotton sheets and your morning swim in the ocean. Make it a stretch and something that really captures your imagination. Activate the Law of Attraction and tell the Universe exactly what you want.
The most important thing is that you do it regularly - daily would be cool. Do it every day for 30 days and I bet your life will change unrecognisably.
Don't you get bored doing it again and again?
No way! I always say that the best book ever written is your own journal. You can do it in different ways every day. One day you can do it in cartoon form. Another day you could do it in rhyming verse.
The idea is to do it. Start now and have fun with it.
